A clean reinstall removes Fluxer and everything it stores on your device, then installs it again. It can fix an app that won't start, keeps crashing or is stuck on an old version. You're signed out of every account on this device, on every instance. Your messages, communities and account settings are kept on the instance and come back when you sign in.

Before you start

  • To sign in again, you need access to your email, and your password if your account has one. If you use two-factor authentication, you also need your second factor.
  • If you started Fluxer with only a name, add an email to your account first, because an unclaimed account can't be recovered after a clean reinstall.
  • To keep your themes, open "Themes" in settings and choose "Export library" under "Share and back up". After you reinstall, bring them back with "Import library".
  • Desktop app settings stored on this device reset. Custom CSS, custom shortcuts and your base theme reset too, unless you turned on syncing for them.

If you plan to report a bug, first copy the logs from one of these folders.

  • %AppData%\fluxer\logs on Windows
  • ~/Library/Logs/fluxer_desktop on macOS
  • ~/.config/fluxer/logs on Linux
  • ~/.var/app/app.fluxer.Fluxer/config/fluxer/logs if you use the Flatpak
  • data\fluxer\logs next to Fluxer.exe in the portable version on Windows

For Fluxer Canary, the macOS folder is ~/Library/Logs/fluxer_desktop_canary, and on Windows and Linux the folder is called fluxercanary in place of fluxer.

Windows

  1. Fluxer keeps running in the tray when you close its window. Right-click the Fluxer icon in the system tray and choose "Quit Fluxer". If you don't see the Fluxer icon there, click the arrow next to the tray to show hidden icons. If Fluxer has no tray icon, open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc and end every "Fluxer" process.
  2. Open "Settings" > "Apps" > "Installed apps" and uninstall "Fluxer". On Windows 10, it's "Settings" > "Apps" > "Apps & features". If there's a second "Fluxer" entry from an older install, uninstall it too, and if an entry disappears or shows an error, go on to step 3. Leave "Fluxer Canary" installed unless you're reinstalling Canary.
  3. Press Win+R, type %LocalAppData%, press Enter and delete fluxer_desktop if it's still there. If you first installed Fluxer in early 2026, delete fluxer_app too.
  4. Press Win+R, type %AppData%, press Enter and delete the fluxer folder.
  5. Download the installer from the download page and run it.

A reinstall turns on "Launch Fluxer at login". Turn it off in "Windows app" settings.

For Canary, delete fluxer_desktop_canary in %LocalAppData% and fluxercanary in %AppData%, and fluxer_app if you installed Canary in early 2026.

If Windows says a file is in use, end every "Fluxer" process in Task Manager and try again. If that doesn't help, restart your PC and delete the folder before you open Fluxer.

If an old "Fluxer" entry stays in "Installed apps" and shows an error when you click it, open Command Prompt and run this command to remove the entry.

reg delete "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\fluxer_app" /f

You don't need a registry cleaner, because a reinstall writes Fluxer's entries again.

If you use the portable version, your data is in the data folder next to Fluxer.exe. To remove it, quit Fluxer and delete the whole folder you unzipped it to.

macOS

  1. Click Fluxer in the Dock, then choose "Fluxer" > "Quit Fluxer" or press Cmd+Q.
  2. In Finder, open "Applications" and drag Fluxer to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, press Shift+Cmd+G, enter ~/Library/Application Support and press Return, then drag the fluxer folder you find there to the Trash. Shift+Cmd+G opens your Library folder even though Finder keeps it hidden by default.
  4. To delete the logs, do the same with fluxer_desktop in ~/Library/Logs.
  5. To reset the microphone, camera, screen recording and input monitoring permissions you gave Fluxer, run tccutil reset All app.fluxer in Terminal.
  6. Empty the Trash.
  7. Download Fluxer, open the disk image and drag it to "Applications".

A reinstall turns on "Launch Fluxer at login". Turn it off in "macOS app" settings.

For Fluxer Canary, the folders are fluxercanary and fluxer_desktop_canary, and the Terminal command is tccutil reset All app.fluxer.canary.

Linux

Flatpak

  1. Quit Fluxer, or run flatpak kill app.fluxer.Fluxer.
  2. Run flatpak uninstall --delete-data app.fluxer.Fluxer.
  3. Install Fluxer again with the Flatpak instructions on the download page.

For Fluxer Canary, use app.fluxer.FluxerCanary in both commands.

Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and Arch Linux

  1. Quit Fluxer from the tray, or end every Fluxer process in your system monitor.
  2. Remove the package with your package manager.
    • On Debian and Ubuntu, run sudo apt remove fluxer.
    • On Fedora, run sudo dnf remove fluxer.
    • On Arch Linux, run sudo pacman -Rns fluxer.
  3. Delete your data and the startup entry with rm -rf ~/.config/fluxer ~/.config/autostart/app.fluxer.FluxerDesktop.desktop ~/.config/autostart/fluxer.desktop. If you set XDG_CONFIG_HOME, use that folder in place of every ~/.config in the command before you run it.
  4. Install Fluxer again from the download page.

A reinstall turns on "Launch Fluxer at login". Turn it off in "Linux app" settings.

For Fluxer Canary, the package is fluxer-canary, the folder is ~/.config/fluxercanary and the startup entries are app.fluxer.FluxerDesktopCanary.desktop and fluxer-canary.desktop. If you installed Fluxer in early 2026 and never updated it, the package may still be called fluxer-app on Debian and Ubuntu or fluxer_app on Fedora.

AppImage and tar.gz

  1. Quit Fluxer from the tray, or end every Fluxer process in your system monitor.
  2. Delete the AppImage file or the folder you extracted. If you find any .fluxer-update- folders next to the AppImage file, delete those folders as well.
  4. Delete the menu entry Fluxer added with rm -f ~/.local/share/applications/app.fluxer.FluxerDesktop.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/fluxer.desktop. If you set XDG_DATA_HOME, use that folder in place of every ~/.local/share in the command before you run it.
  5. Download Fluxer again from the download page.

A reinstall turns on "Launch Fluxer at login". Turn it off in "Linux app" settings.

For Fluxer Canary, delete ~/.config/fluxercanary and the menu and startup entries app.fluxer.FluxerDesktopCanary.desktop and fluxer-canary.desktop.

Web app

Clearing Fluxer's site data signs you out of every account in your browser and deletes drafts, themes and custom sounds. It also deletes the copy of the app your browser saves for faster loading. If an old version keeps showing up, that copy is out of date.

  1. Close every Fluxer tab.
  2. Open your browser's settings and find the sites that store data on your device. Search for "fluxer" and delete the data for web.fluxer.app and fluxer.com.
  3. Open Fluxer again and sign in.

For Canary, the sites are web.canary.fluxer.app and canary.fluxer.com.

iOS and Android

  1. Open the Fluxer app and sign out of each account. If you can't open it, sign in on another device later and sign out the old device in "Linked devices" in settings.
  2. Delete the app from your phone.
  3. Install it again from TestFlight on iOS or Google Play on Android.

If you installed the Android app from GitHub, you have to uninstall it before you can install the version from Google Play. The same is true the other way around.

If the problem doesn't go away

If Fluxer still doesn't work after a clean reinstall, please report it on Fluxer Feedback with your platform, your Fluxer version and the exact steps that cause the problem. For problems with your account, you can email us at support@fluxer.com.
