How to add an email to an account that only has a name, and what that changes.

If you started Fluxer with only a name, your account is unclaimed. Adding an email claims it, and then you can sign in on other devices and nothing is lost when you sign out.

Add an email

  1. Open "User settings" (the cogwheel at the bottom left).
  2. Go to "Account" and choose "Add email".
  3. Enter your email. You can also set a password here, but you don't have to.
  4. We email you a 6-digit code. Enter it to confirm the address.

If you close the window before you enter the code, your email is saved but not confirmed yet. You can send a new code from the "Account" section whenever you're ready.

If you subscribe to Plutonium before you add an email, checkout asks for your email and the code in the same window. Receipts always go to a confirmed address.

To buy a gift or the Operator Pass, add an email first.

What you can do before you add an email

Before you add an email, you can do these things.

  • join communities and read them
  • set up your profile, settings and themes
  • appeal decisions from any email address, as section 6.2 of our terms explains
  • disable or delete your account

An account without an email can't do these things yet.

  • send messages or react
  • send direct messages, join group chats or send or accept friend requests
  • create communities
  • join voice channels or calls
  • create apps and bots
  • report content

Once you add an email, you can send messages and direct messages, accept friend requests and join voice channels and calls. Reacting, sending friend requests, creating communities and reporting content need your email to be confirmed first.

Some instances ask for a confirmed email for more, such as joining communities and creating invites, and show other people only your username until then. Keeping contact with other people behind an email cuts down on spam and unwanted contact.

If the email already has an account

An email can only be on one account. If the email you enter is on another account, even one that hasn't confirmed it, the app says it's in use and doesn't add it.

If the email is yours and the other account has a password, choose "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page. We email a reset link to your inbox, and setting a new password signs every other device out of the account. The reset doesn't confirm the email. After that, choose "Verify email" in "User settings" and enter the code we send you.

If that account has no password, sign in with your email and enter the code we send, which also confirms the email. If it wasn't confirmed yet, every other device is signed out.

Signing out without an email

If you sign out of an unclaimed account on its last device, you can't get back in to it. The app asks you to confirm before you sign out and offers to add an email instead.

Inactive accounts explains when an account like this may be deleted.
